Equestrian Intro
01/09/2006 ( Equestrian, )The Ben Challum farms are situated at the heart of some of the best horse riding country Scotland has to offer in bonnie Strathearn. There are miles of off road hacking on the doorstep, horse friendly neighbouring estates and a network of country lanes all begging to be discovered by horseback! We are also in the middle of Strathearn Pony Club and Riding Club country and only five miles from Gleneagles Equestrian Centre which is arguably the best equestrian centre in Scotland, Strathearn Eventing is a twenty minute drive away and there is a good indoor school at Crieff less than two miles across country.
Currently we have two horses; ‘Scindles’ a 15.16hh chestnut gelding Irish sports horse who belongs to the Helene. “The master” as he is better known has such a large personality that he sometimes cannot control himself or be controlled. He is prone to shying, has bottomless energy and in a former life was a dressage diva so is a joy to ride. His jockey prefers to canter rather than anything else so Master moves around the farms at speed. He goes to the odd competition with Libby and the combination are prolific jump cross winners playing a full part in the jump cross programme at the nearby Strathearn Eventing on the rare occasion that Libby is at home.
‘Kismet’ is at livery at Ben Challum, he belongs to Crieff electrician, John Halley and his wife Tricia. Kismet was very green when Tricia brought him, he is a 16.2hh Chestnut quarterhorse cross TB and has been ‘in training’ for two years his posh name is “Duncrahill Zodiac” currently Tricia and Kismet are enjoying membership of Gleneagles where they train on a weekly basis the improvement is stunning. Kismet will make his eventing debut at Gleneagles later this summer.
Ben Challum has varied areas of stabling and grazing and would accept livery from private individuals on application.
